Photo of the week - Spring time!
Spring has sprung! And everything is in bloom! Including my allergies. Haha!
While coming home the other afternoon, I noticed that my neighbor's rose bushes were in full bloom! The roses grow from their backyard, cascade over the fence, and almost reach the ground. Lovely shades of oranges, pinks, and yellows remind me of sherbet ice cream. And the smell is quite extraordinary! I noticed that jasmine was intertwined amongst the roses and picked a few pieces for my own home. Enjoy!

Photo of the week - How to prepare for a busy week
In an effort to spread some happiness, I thought it would be fun to post a photograph of the week on my blog. So every Sunday, I'll share a photo about any random subject that makes me smile. I hope it makes you feel the same way. And what better way to start off the fun than with the first post being a photograph of the love of my life, my kitty Zoey. She makes me laugh on a daily basis!
Zoey rests up in preparation of a busy work week ahead.

Feel good story
I saw this story on tonight's news broadcast and it hit really close to home for me. Still trying to recover from the heartbreak of my kitty Tsarina's passing last summer, I had finally decided that my Christmas present to myself would be another cat. Then just two weeks before Christmas, I was layed off from my job of nearly five years. With that, I felt that it wasn't fair to bring home another mouth to feed.
In this time of such a harsh down economy, it gives me hope to know that there are people who are willing to help those who can barely help themselves. This video shares such a story.

Tartar Sauce is good for fish!
So at last night's Tartar Sauce weekly get-together art group, I created a new catnip toy design! And what could be more appealing to a cat than a FISH!
After several failed attempts to get the design just the perfect size and shape for kitty paws, Zoey tells me that I now have it down pat! Here's the proof.

Home is where the heart is
Here are some more photos from an afternoon walk in Midtown.
This home was recently boarded up and condemned as unfit to live in. Could have something to do with the fact that it looks like the Amityville Horror house! Just a thought.
This super cute place has a ton of windows and a very cool garage!
There's just something about a yellow house that makes me smile.
The colors on this house are very strange, but ultimately they really do work well together. I love the punch of red on the doors - brings good luck!
Another very unusual paint job that seems to work. Notice how the blue stairs compliment the blue roof.
This cute little place has the very unfortunate neighbor of a large billboard! Yes, all of the windows on the entire right side of the house are blocked by a large billboard that you can just barely make out in this photo! Sadly though, even if the billboard was removed, the home would look onto a dreary parking lot. At least that would let some sunlight in!

Scary crafting strikes again!
Last night, I got together with a group of friends for our Scary-Crafters Night at Side Show Studios. I love our monthly get-togethers because it's not only a chance to catch up with girlfriends, but it's also a chance to learn about other art techniques.
Yoli put together embellished journals/albums created from paper sandwich bags. What a unique idea!
She's going to teach this art technique to a group of students later this week. Can't wait to see what the kids make!
Char is busy working on a series of paintings based on the lyrics of The Decemberists songs. She's sketching a new piece here.
Lori Ann whipped together this fabric laptop holder, complete with velcro enclosures. The fabric is a favorite of mine - tiny, pink kittens! Yeah, she sewed this entire project - from concept to completion - in just a few hours!
Here's my friend, Tera. I walked her through the steps of completing a few basic quilt blocks. I showed her how to sew a nine patch and how to do the triangle technique. I hope that she'll create a quilt of her own. That would make me happy!
